Well then guys and gals, looks like we will still be without pubs until at least the beginning of July. I'm sure many of you, like myself, shed a tear or two at the realisation that you will now have to continue drinking with your family members and not your lads or ladies. Sad times for sure.
But don't any of you panic! I am here to keep you entertained for those few seconds once a week like usual. So sit back, get a brew or something stronger, and enjoy the tale of when I tried out a trio of beers from Partizan Brewing.
Who are they I hear you all cry! Yeah I needed to find that out as well. Turns out they are a brewery within the famous Bermondsey Beer Mile. They were founded in 2012 by a Mr Andy Smith, so I believe that makes him an unofficial Olympian.
What I absolutely love about this brewery is the fact that they are always chopping and changing the hops they use, even for their core beers. They decide to use different varieties for each brew which is simply fantastic.
Now what are their core beers I hear you cry! Well they have a fair few, so here's three of them:
Of these three stunningly designed bottles, the first one I opened was their Lager (4.6%)
Now when it comes to beers, Lagers are certainly near the bottom of my go too list, however in the recent boom of craft brewing, lagers are certainly making a comeback. Many breweries are taking the name lager and completely changing the common stigma that comes with it.
This lager is absolutely no exception. There is very clearly a traditional European approach being taken here with the smells and tastes both being very familiar to anyone who has travelled to countries such as Germany or Poland.
What I love about this beer is that although it's called a lager, it is simply so much more. It's cloudy, unfiltered, unpasteurised with so much flavour. This is a beer that you truly have to try, it really is.
Let's hope the next one was just as good eh? Next up, their Pale Ale (4.5%)
This is one of their key beers that they seemingly like to try out different hops each time they brew. The hop that I was lucky enough to try was Citra, a hop that I am very familiar with and love, which was very lucky.
A great feature of their pale ale, and many of their other beers if not all, is that it is vegan. Now I am someone who is very far from a vegan, but do simply love it when something as amazing as beer can be shared with as many people as possible. Top stuff Partizan.
Now to the beer itself, it had those classic flavours and aromas that are to be expected from the Citra hop. It was clean, refreshing with a lovely touch of bitterness. A proper all round beer for sure.
Now the final beer was a strong one. This was the reason as to why I left this one till last; IPA (6.5%)
Now to have this as a one off in your home is fantastic, but you will never see me drinking something this strong on a night out. I wish to come home in one piece thank you very much, though I rarely do whilst drinking lower percentage beers so to be fair I may as well just go for it.
Whilst cooking there is a common adage, fat means flavour. The same can be said for beers, albeit tweaked a little bit. Let's go with 'percentage means flavour'. It could just be my mind playing tricks on me but when I do drink a higher percentage beer, it's packs so much more of a flavour punch than some with a lower ABV (Alcohol Per Volume).
The hops used within the strong devil this time around were Amarillo and Chinook, which combined make an amazing duo. It tasted strong, hoppy, bitter and fruity, I think anyway, my notes got a little blurry after this one.
Overall another incredible brewery. I am quite enjoying lockdown at the moment, I'm getting to try so many amazing beers. Well I say lockdown, are we still in lockdown? Semi-lockdown? Kinda-lockdown? Who knows anymore.
I do apologise for the lack of actual beer photos in this one. I took photos of the bottle the night before drinking, and whilst drinking, photos clearly were not my priority.
If you are enjoying this blog then please do share it would your friends and family, I mean your family are probably sitting it the next room so just shout.
Anyway, I do hope you are all still staying home and staying safe. I'll see you next week. Cheers!
